SPARKS — A fire broke out Sunday in a pile of rubbish at the back of a warehouse located at 865 Deming Way.

Firefighters responded to the call at 10:03 a.m. at a business called Rubbish Runners. The warehouse is used to separate recyclable products from household trash, according to a Sparks Fire Department report. The business’ owners told firefighters there was a fire at the rear of the building but that no one was inside.

This rubbish pile was about 8 feet tall and covered an area between 3,000 and 5,000 square feet. Overhead sprinklers had gone off, which kept the fire at bay. With no life or property threats the firefighters attacked the fire from outside. The nature of the pile made it difficult to extinguish the fire, so city public works employees brought in a front loader to move the rubbish outside so firefighters could put the blaze out completely.

Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
