Sparks survived seven errors and was still able to take down Walker River 13-4 in the losers’ bracket of the Babe Ruth state tournament at Lampe Park in Gardnerville Tuesday night.

Sparks had 11 hits on the night and was led by leadoff hitter Shannon Kelly, who sparked the offense with three hits and scored three runs.

Both Reid Enochson and Kenny Malizia added two hits apiece. Enochson drove in a pair of runs and had a double.

Sparks got off to a quick start, leading 5-0 after one inning and 8-0 after two. Walker River hurt its cause by walking nine Sparks batters.

Pitcher Jonathan Pinto went the distance for the win, allowing one earned run on five hits while striking out five.

Sparks has a rematch with Reno West Thursday at 6 p.m. The winner will advance to the losers’ bracket final and has a chance at reaching Saturday’s championship game.

Sparks beat Reno West 8-1 in the opening round of state but blew a lead to South Reno Sunday and couldn’t score the tying run in the last inning despite having the bases loaded with no outs and only trailing by one run.

Reid is a phenominal baseball player. & actually, phenominal at anything he does. I'm not suprised that he pulled this off, and it makes me super happy to know that my best friend in the entire world is now in Sparks Tribune history for the rest of his life. I'm so proud of you Reid, if you ever read this comment. (: Keep up all the hard work, and never give up anything. (:
