RENO — A Reno woman was arrested Tuesday for allegedly abusing her fiancee’s 3-year-old daughter.

Melissa Buschette, 31, surrendered to Washoe County Sheriff’s deputies after the authorities were alerted to a possible child abuse case in the 10000 block of Silver Knolls Boulevard. Deputies learned that the child had suffered injuries while in the care of her father and his fiancée. Witness statements gave deputies probable cause to arrest Buschette.

Buschette was arrested for felony child abuse and her bail was set at $3,500.   

Detectives are requesting that anyone with additional information contact the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office at 328-3332 or Secret Witness at 322-4900.

WCSO spokesman Armando Avina said the child suffered bruising only and did not have to be taken to the hospital. In any case like this, he said, social services gets involved but he did not know if child is still in the custody of the father.
